On November 2, 2015 CMAP has started an afterschool music program at Cincinnati College Preparatory Academy; teaching the students of CCPA as well as the youths in the local community how to play musical instruments (Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba, drumline, dance team, etc.) and forming the CCPA Lions Music Ensemble. During the 2019-20 fall season; the CCPA Lions Music Ensemble has performed during all CCPA home football games, Westwood/Cheviot Harvest Home Parade, the UC Alumni Homecoming Parade, and more.
The CCPA Lions Music Ensemble has been learning: how to play, become one, and develop pride. CCPA Lions Music Ensemble is providing students with a foundation in all instrumental areas introducing many to what we hope to be a life long interest in music and art education.
In order to fulfill this schedule and perform with excellence and pride, the CCPA Lions Music Ensemble must practice everyday (Monday-Friday 4 till 6:30). Unlike any other marching band we, the CCPA Lions Music Ensemble, has allowed the elementary students to have the opportunity to march with middle and high school students. We’re not just forming a marching band, we’re forming a musical culture; that at CCPA, music enhances reading and math skills. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays the marching band will practice in the elementary school’s auditorium. Tuesdays and Thursdays the marching band will practice outside (preparing for parades and the football game haft-time shows).
The CCPA Lions Music Ensemble impacts, not just music, but also their grades and discipline behavior; through their instruments. The CCPA Lions Music Ensemble is designed to encourage CCPA students to excel academically and create opportunities for collegiate success through learning Music and the Arts; to improve quality of life and safety in low-income communities.
